Japanese bronze by Tsuda EIJU - Monkey

Japanese Bronze By Tsuda Eiju - Monkey - (japan, Showa Era, 1926 – 1989, Before 1940)

Tsuda EIJU (1915–2001) is considered the most important bronze sculptor of the second half of the 20th century in Japan. Adopted son and successor of the imperial artist Tsuda (Daiju) SHINUBU (1875–1946), he studied under him and later inherited the surname Tsuda (his surname before his adoption by the famous sculptor was Matsunuma).

During his illustrious career, Eiju exhibited his work on numerous occasions and received numerous awards, including the Export Prize of the Handicraft Exhibition, the Prize of the Arts and Crafts Exhibition of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Foundry Masterpiece Award, and the Hokuto Special Prize of the 5th Nitten (1962 - Japan Fine Arts Exhibition).

He was a member of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts, a member of the jury of the Fukuhima Art Exhibition, and a professor at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts.

Eiju is primarily known for his bronze vases, but the animal theme is also a popular theme for this artist. He is known for having made a monkey-shaped incense burner similar to this bronze.
