Although no finished work directly corresponding to the recto drawing has been identified, the harmonious arrangement of the figures suggests that it was intended as a study for a coherent group of characters. In the absence of the remaining composition, interpreting the subject remains challenging, though the overall impression points towards a dramatic scene.
The verso displays four quick sketches, rendered with a pen that is both assured and frenetic. It reflects a practice inherited from Veronese, who often filled a single sheet with multiple small pen figures.
