Large oil on canvas portraying a young woman of fine character, undoubtedly an aristocrat, French school circa 1850.
According to family tradition, this is the portrait of Countess Hallez Claparede, lady-in-waiting to the Empress Eugénie (1826-1920), and attributed to Edouard Louis Dubufe.
Given its quality, the painting should have been signed, but it has been shortened, as can be seen on the sides, to fit into a beautiful period frame. It does not say that it was a full-length portrait.
The frame, with gold leaf, is currently being restored.
Dimensions: 1.17m x 0.90m canvas only.
Original canvas and chassis.
