Phryne before her judges after Pierre Campagne (1851-1914)

Statue in bronze from the beginning of the 20th century, evoking an episode of Greek antiquity where Phryne, a legendary courtesan accused of impiety, is presented before her judges. The sculptor Pierre Campagne is the author of this work produced after the original plaster of 1893 (marble 1894). Nice condition, original shaded green-brown patina, slight wear in accordance with its age. Signature on the base.
Pierre Etienne Daniel Campagne was born in Gontaud-de-Nogaret (Lot et Garonne), student of Falguière, member of the Société des Artistes Français, his participation to the Salon starts in 1889.
