Exceptionally strong sculpture of Christ. It is the essential part remaining from what originally would have been a Corpus Christi on a cross. Sharp facial features, very delicately carved with great attention to eyes, nose, beard and hair. Hand of a master. Beautiful proportions. Magnificent dark patination to the wood.
Two old repairs in the chest add to the charm and the history of this piece.
Wear, losses, cracks. At some point in the past centuries, a back panel was added so that the hollowed Corpus torso could be put on display without a stand. Italy, probably Tuscany 15th century. Walnut. Dimensions: 45x23x15cm.
