Louis XVI period clock with the allegory of marriage

Pendulum in chiseled bronze and gilded with mercury and black lacquered wood representing the allegory of marriage.

On the left, standing Cupid holds his bow and quiver; at his feet some arrows rest on the ground.

To the right a young woman holds the flame of Love in her hand and at her feet the cornucopia symbolizes the fortune of a happy marriage.

On the top of this clock, two doves exchange a wreath of flowers above a flaming heart.

The clock rests on a black lacquered wooden base adorned with gilded bronze elements.

The period movement signed by the watchmaker Hardy strikes the hours and half-hours as it passes.

During the dismantling and cleaning of this clock, we found on the back of the dial the signature of the enameller "Barbezat", as well as the date of manufacture of the dial: 1776.

Work from the Louis XVI period circa 1776.

Very good condition gilding; note the lack of Cupid's thumb as well as the arrow he held in his hand.

Movement in perfect working order, revised by a clockmaker and guaranteed.

Height: 37.5cm.
Width: 37.5cm.
Depth: 12.5 cm.
