Bittergourd box in ebony by Clément Mère (1861-1940). Born in Bayonne, Clément Mère trained in painting in the studio of Jean-Léon Gérome before joining Julius Meier-Graefe's La Maison Moderne. His work has marked the history of decorative arts, by its finesse and versatility.
