Crystal, blue glass and bronze chandelier, Sweden circa 1800

Beautiful neoclassical chandelier with six arms of light in the form of a suspension. The upper part comprising a blue glass with cobalt set in bronze and surmounted by a plume of branches with falls of crystal almonds.
The lower part is maintained by three bronze chains with openwork links. It consists of a circular frame from which six arms of lights in the form of horns of plenty start. Garlands of fines and pears in cut crystal connect all the arms. The outer face of the entablature is embellished with cassolette motifs, while crystal daggers hang below the entire structure.
A large cobalt blue glass bowl ending in a bronze pine cone hangs from the entablature.
Swedish work from the late 18th century or very early 19th century.

Our opinion :

The chandelier that we present is a classic of the Baltic countries' productions, in the first place Sweden which was strongly inspired by the Parisian bronziers at the end of the 18th century. Few of these chandeliers have come down to us with their original blue glass. This cobalt glass offers inimitable colors that vary under the effect of light from the deep blue of the ocean, to a translucent sky blue.
