Very beautiful and rare set of four candlesticks from the time of Charles X. Fine chiseling on the foot and the candle spout and guilloché column shaft. Richly decorated with acanthus leaves and other vegetable elements on the top. Very good condition in age-appropriate patina.
Gold-plated candlesticks were very common lighting elements in the early 19th century. The glow of the candles was reflected in the polished surfaces and bathed the room in a warm, golden light. They were usually placed directly next to the user. So there are game tables designed with four recesses in the corners for candlesticks. They were also gladly placed in pairs on fireplaces or consoles. Larger sets of more than two chandeliers are rare.
