Young Christopher Colombus- Giulio Monteverde (1837/1917)

Giulio Monteverde is the author in 1870 of the "Young Christopher Columbus" represented sitting on a building block decorated with the coat of arms of the Republic of Genoa, a book in hand, looking towards the sea. Several large marble versions are exhibited in public places including the Boston Museum or the Albertis Castle in Genoa. The proposed bronze edition was produced towards the end of the nineteenth century (old cast iron), the base is in black marble bordered by a gilded bronze net. Very nice state of presentation, orange brown patina with wear in accordance with its age. The height indicated includes the marble support, the bronze alone measuring 56 cm.
Giulio Monteverde (Bistagne1837/ Rome 1917) is one of the most brilliant Italian sculptors, a student at the Beaux-Arts in Rome and will become a teacher.
Important works such as the statue of Victor Emmanuel in the Pantheon of Rome or the genius of Franklin will earn him great distinctions, corresponding member of the Institut de France he was named Officer of the Legion of Honor.
