Offered by Matthew Holder
A Massive silver mounted agate table snuff box.
English, Circa 1820.
Measures 10.2 x 9.5 x 3cm.
The box decorated with a complicated engine turned base, reeded sides, gilded interior and polished agate top (cleverly leaving a tiny unrefined reserve, to demonstrate its origins as a geode).
There is a continual border to the base and thumb rest carved with alternating flowers, feathers, leaves, shells and other decorative motifs (typical work of the London goldsmiths Northam and Strachan, however the box is unmarked).
