Breakfast - Hyppolyte DURAND-TAHIERr (1863-1899)

First a notary, then a journalist,
art writer and talented poet,
he ended up devoting himself entirely to painting.

Friend of Maufra, Gauguin, and Puvis de Chavannes who pushed him to paint,
he was also close to Rodin whose work he admired.
He is present in the great Parisian salons,
and very appreciated by amateurs.

His painting is very inspired by the impressionists.
*The impressionists
like to emphasize the home,
and the family unit,
as simply as possible, without embellishment...
Moments captured fleetingly are thus offered to the eyes of the spectators.

The feminine mystery of the home,
the effects of everyday objects and textiles,
the play of shadows and lights linked to the presence of doors or windows,
create thus
a poetic idea of domesticity.

The spectator attends the daily life of the characters who do not know that there is :
a family harmony, figures of wise children and virtuous women
with delicate attitudes.

All with blurred lines,
games of reflections and reversals between interior and exterior.
