La Baigneuse, oil on canvas signed Paul Chabas lower left, original frame in wood and patinated stucco (96x83), very good condition.
CHABAS Paul Emile (1869-1937) painter of character compositions, nudes, portraits, pupil of William BOUGUEREAU and Tony ROBERT-FLEURY at the JULIAN academy where he was trained in Paris from 1883 to 1887, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1885, received the National Salon Prize in 1899 and a gold medal in 1900, he was also commander of the Legion of Honor.
His favorite subjects were the female nudes often depicted in the bath.
A work entitled blonde nymph with the same young bather is kept at the Sao Paulo museum (see last photo).
