Pair of marines, Peter van de Velde (1634-1723)

Peter van de Velde was master in the Antwerp guild in 1654. He was one of the last Antwerp marine painters.

We know of another painting by Peter van de Velde that bears the same signature as our painting and which is dated 1703. The latter (oil on canvas, 83 x 119 cm.) was sold at Sotheby's Amsterdam, on November Th 4, 2003 . no 65, illustrated in color
