Limestone Sedes Sapientiae. Southern France, late 12th - early 13th century

A fragmentary limestone Sedes Sapientiae (Throne of Wisdom). The elongated seated figures of the Madonna & Christ child are typical of Southern French and Spanish Romanesque sculpture. Sadly this rare sculpture is missing both heads but retains much of its original polychrome.

Southern France, late 12th - early 13th century.

Measures 36.5 x 15.5 x 12cm.
