Painter of history, scenes of genre, urban landscapes, landscapes, watercolorist, painter of cardboard tapestries, illustrator.
He studied in the studio of Gabriel Guérin in Strasbourg, then he entered the Eole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1844, where he was a pupil of Leon Coginet. He appeared in the Paris Salon from 1847 to 1880, obtaining a gold medal in 1878 for the Universal exhibition. He made tapestry cartoons for various works, including: The Procession of the Gutenberg Festival and Promenade in the Lot Department.
