Rectangular box in blown and chiseled opal crystal. This white opaline, sometimes called “soapy opaline” for its milky color, is cut in “bamboo” ridges. The opaline is set in a gilt bronze mounting decorated with floral motifs. The box is decorated with two medallions on the sides to serve as handles, the lock on the front is embellished with floral motifs. The box is set of four lion’s feet accented with foliage. The quality of this box’s opaline and the intricacy of its gilt bronze decoration is representative of objects produced during the first half of the 19th century.
