A Louis XV Faience clock stand attributed to the "Maître des Muses"

Exceptional faience of Rouen clock stand, with its original silver watch, rocaille form supported by two lions seated on a blue base.

It is decorated in polychrome grand feu:
- In the center in a reserve bounded by rocaille shaped braces, 4 figures of the seasons, framed by flower vases, cornucopias and two lively figures in reserves.

- Comes from the collection Tumin, Sale Hôtel Drouot by Maître Ader June 11, 1938 Lot No. 44
- A appeared to the exhibition of French Faience at Pavillon de Marsan in 1932 N#859

This clock stand, whose decor is in all points similar to those on:

- La colonne de cheminée conservée au Musée de Rouen,
- Au plateau conservé au Metropolitan Muséum de New York,
- A la bannette, à la scène champêtre de musée de Rouen,

is attributed to the " Maître des Muses"

Apart from Chapelle painters, Borne and Leleu, two other painters according to madam Chantale Soudée-Lacombe can be considered:

- Thomas le Boulanger, who is listed by Pottier as faience painter, académicien et maître de Dessin,
and
- Jacques Michel, painter best paid from 1749 to 1756, we can reasonably assume that his salary was a recognition of his talent brand!
Considering our current knowledge and, unable to ascertain the name of the author of such masterpieces, this painter is called "Master of the Muses"

Personally I think this is Claude Borne
