A pair of watercolour drawings by Pierre Louis Boquet ( 1741 - 1814 ) representing exotic costumes for the Opera " Alexandre aux Indes " by Méreaux presented in Paris and Versailles in 1783.
the subjects are an " American savage girl " and an " Indian soldier " ( the titles on the original mounts in blue paper under the drawings ).
Boquet was a designer of costumes and decors for the opera at the French court after his father, Louis René Boquet , general inspector of the Menus Plaisirs du Roi.
