Very important 17th-century Dutch painting, sold separately for €1,500
Oil on oak panel depicting a village scene in a wooded landscape, featuring several figures at the foot of a brick cottage with high gables.
This composition evokes the work of Roelof van Vries, a Dutch Golden Age painter who specialized in forest landscapes and rustic scenes bathed in warm, silvery light. Several characteristics of his work are evident here: the tall trees framing the composition, the sense of depth in the path, the brown and golden tones, and the meticulous rendering of the small figures bringing the scene to life.
The calm and poetic atmosphere, the quality of the foliage, and the subtlety of the cloudy sky place this work within the great tradition of Dutch landscapes from the second half of the 17th century.
A very beautiful antique panel presented in a substantial, molded, blackened frame, likely from the 18th or 19th century, which is particularly decorative.
Some visible wear and slight scuffing, which do not detract from the viewing of the work
Panel dimensions: 32.5 x 40 cm
