We present a very fine portrait of a man wearing a ruff, in the pure tradition of 17th century Flemish portraiture, characterized by great nobility as well as a certain austerity.
Of particular note in our portrait is the profound intensity of the sitter’s gaze, fixed directly on the viewer, and the great majesty of his posture.
A very fine frame in ebonized wood and tortoiseshell completes the ensemble.
