Désiré Christian - Vase With Floral Frieze, Verrerie d'Art De Lorraine Burg

Gourd-shaped vase with three bulges, made of gray molded blown crystal, circa 1894–1903. The decoration consists of a diagonal frieze of stylized plant motifs, foliage, hearts of Mary, and mallow flowers. This decoration was etched, cameoed, and intaglio-engraved, then partially painted with translucent and opaque polychrome enamels in shades of gold, light pink, and burgundy, on a slightly satin-finished background. A delicate geometric frieze of foliage, glazed in black, brown, and white, surrounds the stem. The vase rests on a silver base decorated with blackberries. Signature engraved with a point below: BS & C° / Meisenthal with the Cross of Lorraine surrounded by thistles. Height: 24 cm.
