Bronze Sculpture “The Archer” - Follower of Willem van Tetrode

This bronze sculpture, “The Archer,” was created by a follower of the Dutch sculptor Willem van Tetrode.

The sculpture depicts a slender, muscular athlete standing with his legs widely apart. His left arm is extended forward while his right arm is drawn back, as if pulling the bowstring. The dynamic pose conveys tension and intense concentration at the very moment before releasing an arrow.

The work is executed in the écorché technique, an artistic approach in which the human figure is represented with the musculature exposed and without the skin. This treatment of the human body is characteristic of Renaissance and Mannerist masters, reflecting their profound interest in anatomical study and sculptural form.

Cast in bronze and finished with a beautiful dark lacquered patina, the sculpture emphasizes the expressive modeling and finely rendered anatomy of the figure. The work is preserved in excellent condition.
