Charles-Louis Bazin (1808–1859), Portrait of an Odalisque

This painting is executed in the spirit of Romantic Orientalism, a style that enjoyed great popularity in European painting during the 19th century. It depicts a young odalisque seated with her back turned to the viewer, looking back over her shoulder. Beside her are an Oriental vase and an incense burner, enhancing the exotic atmosphere of the composition.

The painting is presented in a substantial gilded classical frame with ornamental decoration.

Charles-Louis Bazin received a rigorous academic training and studied in the ateliers of two of the greatest French masters of the early 19th century: Anne-Louis Girodet-Trioson and Baron François Gérard. Throughout his career, he portrayed many prominent political and military figures of his time.

The painting is in excellent condition.
