Rare Cathedral Icon of the "Nine Martyrs of Cyzicus"Romanov-Borisoglebsk school, late 18th – early 19th century. Traditional style.Description:The center and foreground of the icon depict the nine saints who suffered martyrdom in the Asia Minor city of Cyzicus during the 3rd century. The names of the nine martyrs are: Theognis, Rufus, Antipater, Theostichus, Artemas, Magnus, Theodotus, Thaumasius, and Philemon. In the Orthodox tradition, believers pray before the icon of the Nine Martyrs of Cyzicus for healing from severe physical and mental ailments, as well as for deliverance from poverty.Condition Report:This rare and beautifully executed icon from Romanov-Borisoglebsk is evidently the work of a highly talented iconographer. It remains in its pristine, original condition without any restoration. There is a small crack in the upper right section.
