A fine Charles X period chandelier, circa 1825, in finely chased and gilded

This elegant “basket-and-pearl” model features a circular gilt-brass frame resting on a richly worked structure. The ensemble is adorned with an attractive arrangement of faceted crystal strands forming a central “basket” shape. The crystals, arranged in graceful cascading rows, create a refined play of light and brilliance.

The gilt-brass light arms take the form of elegant swan-neck scrolls terminating in finely sculpted horse heads, a motif characteristic of the refined decorative vocabulary of the period. Each of the six bobeches is embellished with four cut-crystal pendants. These elongated faceted drops beautifully capture and refract the light, enhancing the chandelier’s radiance. The combination of clear crystal and luminous gilding gives the piece exceptional elegance and sparkle.

Of impressive scale, this chandelier stands out for the harmony of its proportions, the quality of its craftsmanship and finishing, and the richness of its carefully executed decoration, reflecting the work of a highly skilled workshop.
