Venetian Reverse Glass Paintings with Gallant and Musical Scenes 18th Century

Rare pair of reverse glass paintings depicting gallant and musical scenes in the Venetian taste of the 18th century. The compositions feature elegant figures in costumes recalling Venetian carnival, Italian theatre and fashionable social entertainment.

One scene shows a young lady at her toilette holding a mirror while a maid arranges her hair beside a musician playing a stringed instrument. The second composition represents a musical conversation or serenade with a figure dressed in vivid red theatrical costume.

The ensemble recalls Venetian genre paintings in the taste of Pietro Longhi, combining music, masquerade and refined social life. The open architectural settings and graceful poses reinforce the Venetian atmosphere of the scenes.

Painted in reverse on the back of the glass according to the reverse glass painting technique.

Original dark wooden frames with gilt inner molding. Handwritten ink inventory numbers remain visible on the reverse.

Good condition.

Dimensions with frame: approximately 28 x 22 cm each.
