Richly carved and lacquered daybed resting on four tapered, fluted, and rudented legs with rounded endings. The uprights of the side backs feature spiral fluting, surmounted by a Doric capital topped with a pomegranate. Friezes of pearls, water leaves, and laurel torus motifs adorned with knots animate the decoration. Acanthus leaves at the base of the uprights and small flowers on the joint blocks accentuate the vegetal ornamentation of the piece.
The daybed enjoyed great popularity at a time when comfort became increasingly important in daily life during the second half of the 18th century. As its name suggests, it allowed one to rest during the day and enabled ladies to receive guests while reclining.
Our daybed is carved on all sides.
