Born in 1920, in Paris,Jean Commère entered the Paris Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1938. His career as a painterbegan his career as a painter, propelled in 1952 by the award of the Grand PrixOthon-Friesz Grand Prix. In 1950, painting men, women, children, landscapeslandscapes, still lifes... At a time when abstraction was emerging as a major trendand new, more conceptual trajectories were already being defined, Jean CommèreJean Commère was convinced that figurative art was still relevant.relevant. He joined the painters of the Jeune Peinture group, then those of theSalon des Peintres Témoines de leur Temps, who, from 1947 onwards, asserted their realist vocation.realistic vocation. An exceptional draughtsman and watercolorist, Jean Commère was alsowas also an accomplished painter. His favorite themes are all representedlandscapes, intimate figures, genre scenes, bouquets of flowers..,The work is flamboyant and captivating.
