The animal's head is rendered in a highly figurative style with bulging eyes and a menacing mouth, open to reveal powerful fangs. The paws rest on a ball with underglaze blue enamel details. The mark "Hirado san Mikawachi Imasuke" (?) is engraved beneath the ball.
