Christ the Pantocrator is one of the most famous archetypes of Orthodox iconography, symbolizing the glory and power of Christ.
Jesus is always depicted in this way, in the position of blessing, holding in his left hand the Gospel open to the faithful, while his raised right hand is folded in the blessing gesture of the Orthodox rite, palm open, thumb and ring finger touching.
Tempered on panel in a finely chased and silvered riza in a beautiful kiot with motis carved with flowers in the corners. Russia. 19th century.
