Small “courtesy” chest in painted wood decorated with floral motifs and a bird, Alsace, late 17th century.
Traditionally offered to a wife to store jewelry and precious objects, it is made of beechwood with a lid opening on a wooden pivot.
The Musée Unterlinden and the Musée Alsacien both hold examples of this type.
