Wall cartel clock in gilt bronze from the Louis XV period, signed Gudin on the dial, the movement also signed Gudin in Paris, no. 1072, with silk thread suspension.
Jacques Jérôme Gudin, received master clockmaker in 1750, was established on the Quai des Orfèvres in Paris until 1784. He had a distinguished clientele including the Prince de Conti, the Duc de Choiseul, as well as the marchand-mercier Lazare Duvaux, supplier to Madame de Pompadour.
The gilt bronze case is attributed to Jean-Joseph de Saint-Germain, a renowned Parisian bronzier with whom J.J. Gudin regularly collaborated (source: Tardy, Dictionnaire des horlogers).
