An important cartel clock with its matching wall bracket, in Boulle marquetry of engraved brass on a red tortoiseshell ground, richly decorated with finely chased and gilt bronze mounts featuring openwork, asymmetrical floral and foliate motifs.
The dial in chased bronze is set with enamel cartouches bearing Roman numerals. The movement, signed on the back plate by Claude Du Grand Mesnil in Paris, has a modified verge escapement and dates from the Louis XV period.
Conservation restorations have been carried out; the clock is in working condition and finished with a traditional French polish.
Claude Du Grand Mesnil was a clockmaker received as master in 1716.
