Offered by Michel Lardanchet Antiquités
Painter active in Delft and Leiden in the second half of the 17th century.
Renowned for his rural landscapes, enlivened with animals, very often executed on copper, where his delicate touch and soft light, characteristic of the Leiden school, are best expressed.
Our painting falls within Martinus de la Court's favorite theme: a peasant woman and a shepherd tending their animals in a hilly landscape bathed in an idealized pastoral atmosphere.
Rare painting by Martinus de la Court, signed on the trunk in the lower right corner.
