Louis XV period library in rosewood veneer, within frames of violetwood and rosewood, opening with two glazed doors with shaped uprights over five shelves. Gilded bronze ornaments. Stamped J. SCHMITZ (Joseph SCHMITZ, received master in Paris on June 18, 1761) and Jurande JME mark. Very good original condition, lock and hinges replaced, probably period blown glass. Restored in our workshop in 2026. Condition report and technical photographs available on request. Provenance: Drouot Sale: Masters Libert and Castor, April 20, 1988, lot 166, reproduced on page 59. Private collection. Dimensions Height: 181 x 104 x 38 cm Joseph Schmitz - cabinetmaker. Paris. Master on June 18, 1761. He supposedly lived on Rue de Charonne, from which he disappeared before 1782. His mark is encountered quite frequently on Louis XV veneered furniture, such as ladies' tables and commodes.
