Gilt bronze. This elegant gilt bronze sculptural group depicts a bacchanalian scene with a satyr and a nymph, accompanied by a playful putto. The satyr, recognizable by his pointed ears and vine crown, leans familiarly towards the young woman while holding a cup filled with bunches of grapes. The nymph responds with a graceful, slightly withdrawn pose, creating a lively interplay of movement and interaction. At their feet, a putto climbs towards the grapes, lending the composition a narrative yet playful character. The subject evokes the cult of Bacchus and the festive, natural, and sensual world characteristic of bacchanalian scenes. The treatment of the bodies, with their soft modeling and fluid contours, clearly reflects the influence of late 18th-century French sculpture. Clodion is particularly renowned for his refined mythological groups, in which movement, elegance, and a subtly erotic charm take center stage. The work is signed "Clodion" on the base. The warm gilding highlights the sculptural quality of the surfaces and enhances the theatrical character of the composition. Dimensions: Height: 50 cm Width: 25 cm
