Offered by Franck Baptiste Provence
Finely carved and gilded wooden candelabra, gilded using the Mecca technique (silver leaf covered with a yellow varnish imitating gold).
It depicts a Chinese man in traditional dress with puffed sleeves, perched on a rocky mound. He supports a naturalistic tray decorated with stalactites on his head, which serves as either a candelabra stand or a display stand for porcelain vases.
In excellent condition, with original silvering; the Mecca varnish was later reapplied.
Venice, second half of the 18th century, circa 1760-1780.
