An outstanding and rare 17th-century powder flask, likely of German origin, exquisitely carved in wood and adorned throughout with solid gold mounts of exceptional craftsmanship.
The wooden body is finely carved with a delicate scale pattern. The main medallion in high relief depicts a vivid hunting scene: two putti dramatically spearing a wild boar. The composition is dynamic and expressive, reflecting the Baroque taste for movement and narrative detail.
The sides are embellished with sculpted figures in high relief, joined together at the lower section by their legs, forming a cohesive and sculpturally rich decorative scheme. At the base, a finely chased gold head provides an additional luxurious and symbolic accent.
The neck is fully mounted in solid gold, repoussé and chased with scrolling foliage motifs. The stopper is surmounted by a finely modeled solid gold dragon, serving both as a functional element and a powerful symbolic motif of strength and guardianship. The interior of the lid is also decorated in relief, demonstrating remarkable attention to detail.
