This cabinet, which rises on a molded base, is distinguished first and foremost by its particularly architectural structure. Elegant fluted pilasters rhythmically adorn the facade, framing the leaves of the lower and upper sections. On the panels, surrounded by a frame adorned with palmettes, a decorative composition of fake architectural perspectives has been sculpted, featuring a portico whose vault intrados is divided into coffers. The panels of the four leaves receive similar ornamentation.
A drawer is concealed behind vigorous gadroons as a belt.
Finally, the piece of furniture is crowned with a slightly projecting cornice, the entablature is adorned with palmettes.
The importance given to architecture, both in the structure of this cabinet and in the ornamentation of its panels, illustrates the interest of its contemporaries in the rediscovery of ancient norms. Cabinetmakers were indeed particularly sensitive to these innovations and did not hesitate to reinterpret them to adorn their most beautiful creations.
