Offered by Anne Besnard
These large colour engravings depicting Roman monuments are the work of Benedict Piringer. He was born in 1780 in Vienna, Austria, and died in Paris in 1826. He was a draughtsman and engraver in etching and aquatint.
Each print bears its caption: “View of the Temple of Concord in Rome” and “View of the Temples of Antoninus, Faustina and Jupiter Stator in Rome”, as well as the publisher’s address: “In Paris, at Bancé l’Aîné, rue Saint-Denis No. 214.”
The draughtsman is listed as a certain Junto Tardé, about whom we have found no information.
They are preserved in antique pitch pine frames. In overall good condition, they retain their margins; however, it should be noted that one shows some damp stains and alterations at the lower part, and both display minor surface soiling.
Frame dimensions: 72 cm × 82 cm
Inside dimensions of the mount: 48 cm × 55 cm
