Tapestry with Central Medallion, Aubusson Manufactory, 18th Century

In keeping with tradition, this magnificent tapestry has undergone a thorough cleaning, the addition of a hand-sewn linen lining, and meticulous inspection by our experts in our workshop at the Galerie Lissier. It is now ready to grace your home.

This tapestry is a magnificent example of the craftsmanship of the Aubusson Manufactory in the 18th century, a period during which the Rococo (or Louis XV) style reached its zenith.

Here is a detailed description of the work:

Composition and Structure
The tapestry features a symmetrical and airy composition, characteristic of the "verdure with figures" or floral compositions of the period.

The Central Medallion: At the heart of the work is a Rococo cartouche with flowing, gilded edges. It frames a pastoral scene depicting a young boy, likely a shepherd or peasant, dressed in pink and white and holding a staff (crop). This type of pastoral subject was extremely popular, influenced by the paintings of François Boucher.

The Field: The background, a very light and luminous sky blue, is scattered with generous bouquets of roses, peonies, and wildflowers. The arrangement appears natural, almost floating, which lends a great visual lightness.

Decorative Elements
The whole is structured by a richly ornamented frame:

Rocaille and Shells: The borders are punctuated by acanthus scrolls and stylized "shell" motifs at the top and bottom, emblematic of the decorative repertoire of the mid-18th century.

The Color Palette: A harmony of pastel tones typical of Aubusson is evident: soft pinks, faded reds, gray-greens, and yellow ochres for the sections simulating gilded frames.
