Charles-Nicolas Odiot - Neo-Renaissance Bowl on a Pedestal in Solid silverXIX

Charles-Nicolas ODIOT
Important Neo-Renaissance Bowl on a Pedestal in Solid Silver, 19th Century
Superb circular bowl in solid silver resting on a tall, richly sculpted pedestal.
The wide basin, with its slightly flared rim, is adorned with a finely chased decoration of foliate scrolls, cartouches, and floral garlands, treated with alternating polished and matte surfaces, highlighting the virtuosity of the silversmithing.
The baluster stem and the pedestal feature a particularly remarkable decoration of female masks in high relief, framed by volutes, palmettes, and vegetal motifs of Neo-Renaissance inspiration, typical of the ornamental repertoire developed by the ODIOT firm in the 19th century. The circular, tiered base is embellished with a frieze of chased water leaves.

The piece is distinguished by the exceptional quality of its chasing, the depth of its reliefs, and the harmonious balance of its proportions, testifying to the prestigious craftsmanship of one of the greatest Parisian silversmiths.
