Pair of exquisite Venetian views depicting the Giudecca Canal and a glimpse of the Grand Canal.
They are two small paintings of exquisite craftsmanship, executed in the style of the Venetian master Giuseppe Ponga, one of the most accomplished view painters working in Venice between the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
His paintings are distinguished by an airy lightness and a particularly lively and pleasing color palette.
His depictions, always inspired by the great 18th-century masters, are highly elegant.
These two small gems are an excellent example of his painting, demonstrating a personal style in the reinterpretation of 18th-century Venetian painting.
The works are complete with their original frames, which in turn reflect the rocaille style, revisited in a manner consistent with the characteristics of the paintings.
Biographical Notes:
Giuseppe Ponga (Chioggia 1856 - Venice 1925)
After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, his vast oeuvre spans various artistic fields, from mural and easel painting to miniatures and watercolors, always drawing on the manner and themes of the 18th-century models of G. B. Tiepolo and F. Guardi.
He received prestigious commissions, such as the decorations of the Parliament Building in Budapest and several rooms of the Royal Palace in Venice.
He also painted the famous ten 18th-century-style panels that adorn the walls of the magnificent "Gran Caffè Quadri," a historic Venetian café overlooking Piazza San Marco.
His certified and signed works are rare and achieve excellent results at international auctions.
