REQUEST INFORMATION
The journalist and art critic Georges Dubosc describes this local figure as follows:
As soon as the first days of “crassinage” arrived, one could be sure of catching sight, at some street corner, of Léon-Jules Lemaître, his felt hat pulled down over his eyes, his coat collar turned up, sketching on a small “boîte à puces” a few of his little paintings, which remain as documents of Rouen in the nineteenth century.
Bibliography and exhibition: “The Musketeers, Birth of the Rouen School”, reproduced in catalogue, p. 52.
