George Slaying The Dragon, 17th Century

Large sculpture carved in the round (1.11m at the lance), representing Saint George slaying the dragon. George of Lydda, born in 280 in Mazaca in Cappadocia, is a Christian martyr known for having slain the dragon according to "The Golden Legend" by Jacques de Voragine. Canonized in 494, he is the Patron of Christian chivalry, of the kingdom of Great Britain since the year 800, of Georgia, and of armorers. He is an allegory of the victory of the Christian Faith over the devil, or more broadly of good over evil. Italy? 17th c. Good state of preservation
