The greyhounds are depicted lying down. They are cast in bronze using the lost-wax method and partially mercury-gilded. The nuts are hand-cut. Beautiful patina and original gilding. The greyhound is a common motif in aristocratic iconography, associated with hunting, luxury, and fidelity.
Regency period, early 18th century, circa 1720.
Good condition, some wear from use. No restoration.
These are subjects of elegant sobriety which were very appreciated and which have been reproduced intensively from the end of the 19th century until today.
