Offered by Emmanuel Redon Silver Fine Art
Silverware and Silversmith of the 19th and 20th centuries
Sterling silver tea and coffee set comprising a teapot, a coffee pot, a milk jug, and a covered sugar bowl, resting on a pedestal. Each piece features a simple and elegant design with slightly pinched bellies and a hammered surface, characteristic of the Art Deco style. The handles are adorned with rosewood inlays, creating a refined contrast between the precious metal and the dark wood. The lids, with their taut lines, are punctuated with stylized geometric handles.
The regular hammering, the refined shapes, and the quality of the finishes demonstrate exceptional craftsmanship, representative of the functional elegance of Art Deco. The use of rosewood on the handles accentuates the discreet luxury of the set.
Design attributed to Muller, a designer active in the interwar period, whose work is distinguished by a modernist aesthetic combining clean volumes, textured surfaces, and accents of noble materials. His rigorous approach to form and his preference for functional and sculptural silhouettes are fully in line with the revival of French decorative arts in the 1920s and 1930s.
