Byzantine, 5th - 6th century AD.
Measures 2cm in diameter.
Weighs 2.52 grams.
The roundel, a jewelled fragment, consists of a circular wire frame centring an asymmetrical gold plaque set with a claw-mounted amethyst cabochon, carved to a pointed tip.
Provenance: Private English Collection, formed between the late 1970’s - early 1990’s.
