England, 7th century AD.
Dimensions (each): approx. 1.7 × 1.6 cm.
Combined weight: 8.64 grams.
A pair of ancient gold beads, each formed with delicate cannetille work and originally adorned with collet-set glass gems. The filigree detailing reflects a high level of craftsmanship characteristic of Anglo-Saxon goldsmithing in the early medieval period. Some of the cannetille and inlaid glass elements are now missing, consistent with their age and history.
One bead retains the remnant of a metal bar within the perforation which can be removed upon request. Should the pieces be intended for wear on a necklace or as earrings we can assist with the commission. These rare survivals offer a fine example of early medieval personal adornment and aristocratic material culture.
